Yeah a lot have changed. Even if PC Club didn't disappear late July. It would definately have a hard holiday season. All retailers are having it tough.

Let's just hope the new year will bring in better cheer for everyone.

Interesting site. I started buying from PC Club Anaheim back in the 90's and recall the "99 by 99" slogan. (the goal was 99 stores by 1999). Back in those days the price of everything in the store was negotiable. Back when the Internet was fun, and not so much loaded with penny clicking mongrels. Of course haggling was no longer tolerated after the market went haywire ;-)

The reasons I remained a loyal customer were not only the competitive prices, but the knowledgeable staff and one year "no bologna" warranty. I'm the kind of guy who likes to deal with real humans, and build relationships. When I spend 100,000 in some place I at least like to get to know something about the people I'm dealing with, over the years. It's nice when they remember your name, or at least look at you like they've seen you before. There are things more valuable than thrift.

It's unfortunate that our culture seemingly gravitates toward large impersonal conglomerates automated by software rigged with cut-throat cost-minimizing and profit-maximizing algorithms. It's become like a huge jungle of a Karl Marx wet-dream, encapsulated, prodded and controlled by an ultra-capitalistic elitist minority. I often sing "It's a Wal*Mart world, for us" to the tune of "hard knock life" (Annie). lol.

Anyhow, best wishes to you this holiday season and crossing fingers for a great '09.
